We will meet at Lakeview Beach to monitor the Purple Martin gourds. There should be babies by this time!! Help us record data regarding the age of adult nesting pairs, and measurement of the babies to determine their age. If we have time, we will head over to Lakeside Landing and Black River Landing to observe shorebirds and other species. Exact time for this outing TBD.

This preserve contains a variety of habitat including grassland, woodland, and wetland that hosts a diverse array of birds. It is possible to spot Eastern meadowlark, dickcissels, bobolink, grasshopper, vespers, field, swamp and song sparrows, sandpipers, hooded mergansers, least bitterns, least, alder and willow flycatcher, a variety of woodpeckers, Baltimore and orchard orioles, indigo buntings, red-breasted grosbeaks, cedar waxwings, among others.
It can get hot in the open grassland, so be sure to bring plenty of water with you.
