2024 "I Love Birding Tea" Fundraiser for the OYBC - Recap

The English language is a beautiful thing, empowering us to express our thoughts, ideas, and feelings. But sometimes it utterly fails us.

There just aren't words powerful or expressive enough to tell these two remarkable human beings just how much we appreciate the monumental effort they put into hosting the annual "I Love Birding Tea." This very special event not only provides lucky guests with a lavish spread of food, pastries, and, of course, lovely tea, it also raises thousands of dollars for BSBO's Ohio Young Birders Club.

The amount of time, effort, and talent that Pattye Nicolls and Julie Heitz put into this event is mind-boggling. And the inspiration and motivation it gives the BSBO staff is impossible to measure.
We're so deeply grateful to Pattye, Julie, to all of the incredibly generous artists who donate an astonishing variety of items for the raffle, and to all those who attend, for believing in BSBO's mission and for supporting it in such a beautiful, meaningful way.

You can show your thanks to Pattye and Julie by visiting and following their Facebook pages: www. PattyeBakes Cookies - for a glimpse of the talent and creativity Pattye bakes into her beautiful and tasty treats; and The Chirpy Cardmaker of Quilts - and more to join Julie for one of her wonderful card making events!

After the event, Black Swamp’s Executive Director spoke to a donor about the event and all that goes into it. And, the donor has agreed to not only MATCH the funds raised  at the event, but add funds to it because she was so inspired by the very idea that so many people would come together to do something so good.

Julene Market, whose family owns and operates the Miller Boat Line and the ferries to the Lake Erie islands, has agreed to donate $4,000 to the Ohio Young Birders Club to add to the funds raised at this year's event!!! All she asked is that she be invited to next year's event!

This event, and all those who support it, is a powerful reminder that the world is good and people are kind and wonderful!

This, combined with the Birder's Tea, raised $6700 for the Ohio Young Birders Club!
