Join OYBC members from across the state for special events, field trips, and more! Please coordinate with your advisors to carpool whenever possible. Parents: you are welcome to drive your student to the trip, but please plan on dropping them off for these events. Parents are always welcome to stay onsite and take their own field trip. BioBlitz at Earth Heart Farms - Oak Harbor, OH
Date: August 1, 2026 Time: 7:30am- 5:00pm - Students are welcome to join for any or all portions of the activities! Spend the day exploring Earth Heart Farms while collecting valuable survey data about all the incredible life that resides at this special location! Experts from all over the area will be on hand documenting birds, mammals, plants, insects, macroinvertebrates and more! Collect scientific data, explore nature, and help document a variety of species. Lunch will be provided. |

**New** Virtual Birding Series: "Bird Science in Action: The Moore Laboratory of Zoology at Occidental College" Presented by Dr. John McCormack

Dr. McCormack presents some of the research happening at the Moore Lab of Zoology at Occidental College, emphasizing its student-driven research program and application to careers in bird science. He will go into detail on the Free-flying Los Angeles Parrot Project, which looks at how parrot species have adapted to life in the city after transplant to Los Angeles in the pet trade and implications for conservation in their native ranges.
Dr. McCormack is the Curator of the Moore Lab of Zoology and runs its bird program at Occidental College in Los Angeles. His research focuses on the ecology and evolution of birds, especially how museum specimens can inform modern bird research and conservation.
