We will meet Erie MetroParks’ Naturalist Mike Hensley to search for winter waterfowl by exploring the park and bird observation tower. Spotting scopes are welcome, please dress for the weather and bring water, snacks, and your binoculars!

Learn how to identify waterfowl as they migrate through Ohio. This should be peak migration and we will also see many other types of avian species as we hike around the lake.

We have arranged special for our group an aviary and breeding center tour that will begin at 1:30 PM. After that Kent Bekker, Director of Conservation, will take us on a tour of the vet center and Museum of Science. Feeding the cassowary is weather-dependent, so we hope for favorable weather!
Important Note: Parents may join their OYBC member while visiting the zoo, however, due to space limitations, the special tours are for students only. At that time OYBC members will be accompanied by OYBC Advisors. Parents are welcome to explore the zoo grounds before, during, and after the tours!

The canoe rental will be free to all youth members of the OYBC Southeast Chapter.  Parents are welcome to come on the trip but they will need to pay for their canoe rental. The Hocking River is a fantastic location to see birds as they use the riparian corridor habitat.
