2024 Ohio Young Birders
Conference Recap & Photo Gallery!
16th annual Ohio Young Birders Conference returned to inspire all those who attended! The day was full of uplifting and educational student presentations, bird banding, a guided field trip, Kaufman ID Quiz, amazing prizes, tasty food and plenty of hope, joy and laughter. We are so grateful to all the presenters, volunteers, sponsors, advisors, parents and attendees that make this day possible.
First, the Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO) team would like to thank Joel, Sophie, Matthew, Mason, Killian, and Skylar for their willingness to speak and providing such amazing presentations! The presentations were educational, fun, and inspiring to watch. We would like to extend a special thank you to our two keynote presenters, Coralie Rossbach and Diya Balagopal for their exceptional presentations. Thank you Sam, Emerson, and Alex for being our Kaufman ID Assistants and their excellent job in helping present the quiz answers. We could not run the OYBC without our volunteer advisors, so thank you so much for all the time and energy you give to these students. To the parents, we want to thank you for encouraging your children's love of nature and supporting them in their interest of birds and conservation. Thank you to Ryan Jacob, Annalise Bokenkamp, and Liz Held for running the banding station in the morning. Thank you to BG Ornithology Club and the OSU Ornithology Club for your assistance with leading the morning field trip and helping with raffle items. Thank you to Brian Zwiebel for photographing the day's events from start to finish.
This event wouldn't be possible without the support of our sponsors and partners. We are so thankful to our event host this year, Aullwood Audubon. Their staff helped with set up, worked with the BSBO staff through all of the logistics of the event, and even donated a raffle item, all at no cost to BSBO!
Thank you to Vortex Optics, PattyeBakes Cookies, Julene Market, and Aullwood Audubon for their sponsorship at the Great Egret Level. Kaufman Field Guides, Land, Sea, & Sky, Naturalist Journeys, and Wildside Nature Tours for their sponsorship at the Black-necked Stilt Level. Thank you to the Sabrewing Nature Tours, Leica Sports Optics, Zeiss Optics, and Princeton University Press for their Wood Duck Level sponsorship. Thank you to American Bird Conservancy for their sponsorship at White-throated Sparrow Level. Thank you to Wild Birds Unlimited and Hitchings Insurance for their sponsorship at the Northern Cardinal Level. We also want to thank Vortex Optics, Christina Baal (Drawing 10,000 Birds), Pattye Bakes Cookies, The Wilds, The Cincinnati Zoo, Kaufman Field Guides, VENT, Wild Birds Unlimited, Laura Wolf, Aullwood Audubon, and the Southwest, Mosquito Creek, Southeast, and Northwest Tri-State Chapters for their donations of raffle and door prize items. We were able to raise over $2000 for the OYBC with your raffle donations!
Thank you to everyone who attended this special day! We appreciate your support of these incredible students who are not waiting for the future, they are making their contributions to conservation right now!
