Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area Field Trip

Saturday, December 16, 2006
Sponsored by the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II Project

American Tree Sparrow by Aaron Boone

Bird list will proceed pictures.

A digi-scoped Belted Kingfisher entertained
us by catching a small fish.
Aaron Boone's shot of the Short-eared Owl.

A large group of Tundra Swans and Canada Geese
in a pond off of CR 108.
The group scans the fields in search of Horned Larks, Snow Buntings, and Lapland Longspurs.

The group searches for a Red-headed
Woodpecker on pond 33.
And we weren't disappointed.

Emily Rich, Auriel Van Der Laar, and Samantha
Gates pose for a photo.
Ethan Kistler takes a break as Phil Chaon heads
off to search for Saw-whets.

This distant Short-eared Owl in this digi-scoped view was spotted by Jim McCarty. Thanks Jim Why did the birders cross the road--to search
for a Saw-whet Owl, of course.
